Demisexuality
Contrary to what its name suggests, demisexuality does not imply having half a sexual relationship or making love “halfway.” Quite the opposite: demisexual people, like everyone else, have complete sexual relationships. What sets them apart is the importance of emotional attachment.

Indeed, for demisexual people, sexual attraction must necessarily be accompanied by emotional attraction toward their partner. They are therefore unable to have sex with someone for whom they have no feelings. When their heart is not in it, demisexual people do not experience an orgasm during sex. They are the kind of people who always put feelings and attachment before sex. If you are looking for a one-night stand with no strings attached... know that a demisexual person will not be able to have a “one-night stand” with you! They need to feel attached to you in order to make love to you.

Between black and white... there is the gray area of sexuality
Unlike demisexuality, gray sexuality allows someone to have sex without feelings being involved. The term gray sexuality describes a person situated somewhere between sexuality and asexuality. Depending on different periods in their lives, gray-sexual people may experience very intense or almost nonexistent desire for sex. They may therefore go for a very long period without having any libido before suddenly having “a sky-high libido,” for example. This results in a very irregular frequency of sexual encounters that is not always easy to follow!

Intersexuality
Intersexuality is the new trendy term used to refer to a person who is hermaphroditic, meaning someone who has both male and female characteristics. Indeed, this term, which was used for a long time, was recently deemed derogatory and replaced by intersex. According to a UN report, there are an estimated 120 million intersex people worldwide. These people may have significant differences in 3 areas. First, at the chromosomal level, where the X chromosomes (for women) and Y chromosomes (for men) would not be clearly defined in the body. An intersex person could have half of a chromosome associated with the opposite sex, resulting in sometimes noticeable physical and psychological differences.

The second difference would be more hormonal. Intersexuality can indeed affect hormones. People assigned female at birth may therefore have more masculine characteristics, and vice versa. This is why we sometimes notice women with more pronounced body hair or a man with a relatively well-defined chest.

The third and final difference among intersex people concerns reproduction. In this case, the genital and reproductive systems are outside the norm. A person could have a penis and ovaries or a vagina and a testicle.

Fortunately, even if these new expressions may seem amusing and unfamiliar, it is reassuring and encouraging to see that our society is becoming increasingly open to differences in sexuality.
